watercolor stingray

This southern stingray glides across the shallow, rippled sand bar. A lovely texture was painted in to create a beautiful water color look.

Enchanted forest

The green area is the inside of a Tunicate. The green and red natural colors were enhanced and the background was replaced with an image of the water surface. Marlene Johansen created the unicorn and the owl to confirm that this is indeed an enchanted forest. This (AKA Sea Squirt) is a precursor to the vertebrates and has a notochord, etc. and actually is NOT an invertebrate.

Coral tree ent

Each coral polyp looks like an eye in this unusual coral species. But to Cathy the structure of this coral looks like a face. Some people are reminded of the Tree Ents in the movie "Lord of the Rings".

Christmas tree worm in snow

This blue Christmas tree worm was living within a coral that suffered from coral bleaching during rare high ocean temperatures. Cathy isolated one of the twin feeding tentacles. and added a lovely snow scene.

Algae Garden

There are many beautiful types of algae that grow in the ocean. The colors fascinated Cathy and inspired her to make this image that offers choices for your imagination.

Leaf Art

While walking in the woods in Grand Cayman, Cathy could not help but collect leaves and other colorful trash artifacts to make a small piece of art. She apologizes to Andy Goldsworthy whom she greatly admires as a real environmental artist, but she loved creating this small bit during a long and very lonely lock down in 2020.

A piece of art

Cathy had a very bad underexposure of the scales of a yellow tail snapper. While experimenting with new editing tools, she made lots of designs and settled on this image. What it looks like is completely up to you.

FishFin moth

This image is made from a photo of the fin of a reef scorpion fish in Grand Cayman as it swam below me. The circle in the wing is copied from a close-up of its eye. Then I copied one side reversed and put it together to make a complete fishfin moth.

Early to Rise

The background of this image is a back-lit sponge with an arrow crab inside. Cathy edited the image to create this amazing effect. The Hermit crab was inserted digitally to cover the remains of the arrow crab because it just looked like it had been run over by a truck.

Hydroid in the light

This tiny (1/4 inch across) hydroid lives on the tips of the Gorgonian where it sways in the water to capture food.

Pine Tree in Sand

This small "Pinecone alga" was in shallow water in Little Cayman, but Cathy saw a lovely pine tree!
